SoftWindows95(tm) is a Windows(tm) emulator that allows you to run Windows95-compatible software on your Silicon Graphics® system. For example, you can load and use popular desktop productivity tools such as Microsoft® Office, including MS-Word and MS-Excel. (You must purchase and license these applications separately). Support for Microsoft products is provided by Microsoft or their authorized service providers.

Licensing: The 4.01 version of SoftWindows95 is pre-installed with a permanent license on most O2's.

If you have the 1.01 version of SoftWindows95, your 1.01 license will not work with SoftWindows95 4.01. Contact SGI if you wish to purchase SoftWindows95 4.01 and refer to marketing code SC4-SWIN95-4.01 ($390). Volume packs are also available.

Support: Support for SoftWindows used to be provided by Insignia, but is now provided by Silicon Graphics. Contact the SGI support desk as usual.

CD location: SoftWindows95 used to ship on the IRIX Applications CD. Beginning in August 1997, Silicon Graphics ships a separate SoftWindows95 CD.

Memory: SoftWindows95 runs best on systems with at least 48 MB of system memory and takes about 80MB on your hard drive. If you wish to remove SoftWindows95, use the Software Manager and click Manage Installed Software.

Look for the SoftWindows95 icon in your Icon Catalog on the Applications page. From the icon catalog, just double-click on the SoftWindows95 icon to get started.

Silicon Graphics works with several vendors to provide easy connectivity with Macintosh and PC environments. Your Silicon Graphics system will already accept CD-ROM, floppy, and Syquest® media from other systems.
